The Portobello Chamber Music Group is an open chamber music workshop based in Edinburgh’s seaside town of Portobello. We play a wide range of music from early baroque to modern works with something new every week. Sight reading skills are required, as is a sense of humour when it all goes wrong. The music we select is not advanced or highly challenging and is generally playable by average musicians. We welcome players of all ages (over 18).

To give us as wide a range as possible when selecting music, and to avoid having to transpose parts, we only accept players of instruments which were around in the baroque era. Saxophonists, clarinettists and stylophone players are very welcome to contact us to suggest suitable pieces for which they have sheet music and would like to play with the group.

Currently we have no vacancies for accordion, banjo, ukulele or electric guitar players

What we’re about

An opportunity to play chamber music in a relaxed and friendly group. Open to string and woodwind players (over 18yrs old), of at least Grade 4 standard with reasonable sight reading skills. The are no auditions and we won’t ask to see your certificates! Music for each week will be announced in advance to allow players to download and print their own parts.

Vacancies
Now looking for some woodwind players – an oboe and a bassoon to join a very healthy string section and to play music from the wind repertoire.

Also one or two more violins would be very welcome.

Reasonable sight reading skills required, no wages
